What is a Thai graded reader?
A Thai graded reader is a story written or adapted to a fixed vocabulary and grammar level, so you can read it start to finish without stopping to look up every second word.
Instead of jumping straight into Thai news or novels, you read material pitched just above your current level — enough new words to keep learning, few enough that the story still makes sense.
Every story on AanThai is graded this way, narrated by a native speaker, and tappable: touch any word for its meaning, romanisation, and pronunciation.

Questions about reading Thai
A Thai graded reader is a story written or adapted to a controlled vocabulary and grammar level. Beginner readers stick to the most common few hundred Thai words and simple sentence patterns, while higher levels gradually introduce rarer vocabulary and longer sentences. The goal is comprehensible input: reading Thai you can mostly understand, so you pick up new words from context instead of from a list.
Yes — a set of stories at every level is free to read with no card and no trial timer, including full native audio and tap-to-translate. A Pro subscription unlocks the rest of the library, which grows every week.
Every story is narrated by a native Thai speaker, and the audio is aligned word by word — the word being spoken is highlighted as you listen. You can slow the narration down while you are still getting used to the script, then speed it back up.
Start at Level 1 if you can sound out the Thai alphabet but little else. If you can read a short paragraph and understand most of it without help, move up a level. A good rule of thumb: if you are looking up more than about one word in twenty, the text is too hard — drop down a level and read more of it instead.
